I have a 5 gallon nano that has been up since 12-7. it went through all of the normal diatom blooms, and now is over that but what I do see now is a lack of flow. in the corners where the HOB filer doesn't get flow to, the rock have a green algae on them. I assume it is because I don't have enough flow. I did however add a HOB skimmer that is rated well over this little tank. My question is this, keep the skimmer or ditch it for an aquaclear20 I have to increase flow. seems like there are pro's and con's both ways. I will be honest that the skimmer doesn't seem to pull much because there is only a few inverts and snails in the tank right now.http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/5-gallon-nano-77946.html

That size tank is going to be really difficult to get good flow as you can't stick a power head in there. I would keep the skimmer and HOB filter, just try to move them around the best you can to optimize the flow. To get rid of the algae act like it's any other tank. Keep the nutrients you add low and do frequent water changes.
