could the waste water when making RO water be recycled back into making more RO? or would the water be too "heavy" from the 1st go around that it wouldnt be worth it? would it use up the membranes and filters too much to make it not worth it again? sorry if this has been asked before, but im kinda bored at work. lol

Not sure how effective it would be but you would need to pump the water through the membrane with a decent amount of pressure (such as tap water) to make it work

Remember though that the waste water is full of phosphates etc and it would indeeed foul the membrane faster.

If i were you i would plumb the waste water to a better use, for example to fill up your toilet reservoir :D

    I know the feeling lol
I was also thinking a similar thing the other day. It seems such a waste to see about 4/5 of the water go down the drain and only a small amount come out clean

None the less i would just use the waste water for something else, gardening etc...

oh oh!! I got me thinking now as well..
Plants should be able to use a lot of the extra nutrients (phosphates, nitrates, iron etc). Maybe you could run a plant filter, then mechanical filtration and then through the RO again..

not sue how effective it would be but it gives you something more to think about :D

    :cheesy: OK

    Matt,

If you see this, 3reef needs games please! When Guy and I are bored at work, we need something to do that's fun! And it would really ease the need for head poundings against walls and such. Thank you,

    Sarah :)

Not worth the expense if waste water is a concern ? look into a Kold Sterile unit nothing wasted and nothing that is needed is stripped from the water . and over the long run way less expensive then R/O D,I if you are on a city suppliers with sewer rate charges Thats what cost not the water but the sewer rate that is based on inlet water through meter ..
In Va I have 2 meters one for my potable water and one for my sprinkler water no sewer is charged to the lawn system meter . If you need any info on the filter I mentioned just let me know
