Would a sailfin, a powder blue and a yellow tang be ok together. I am more worried about the yellow and sailfin because of the body type.

you will need to add the yellow and the sailfin at the same time.
because adding after wont work. i should know ive tried to add a sailfin tang atleast 3 times after my yellow. and the 3rd time wasnt the charm
i would add the powder first since they aren't as hardy.

edit: i should add that i have seen this done before, which is probably the reason i kept trying

Would it be better to add a yellow belly hippo then the yellow? I was just looking for some color pop with the yellow

i would add a hippo last because based on my friends tank a 120, he tried to get a school of yellow tangs. so his logic was if he adds 5 at a time his hippo would accept them unlike the last two which it killed.
guess what happened. it killed all of them in 2 weeks.

on the other hand he did successful add a purple tang to the tank, quite ballsy in my mind because of the cost and the hippos history.

I have just added the sailfin yesterday and bought a nice powder blue that I left at the LFS and just trying to figure out which kind of colorful tang I can add with the powder blue at the same time. any suggestions on what I should get. Or should I just stick with the sailfin and powder blue and call it a day.

Yeah, If you're looking for something else as well then look for something in a different genus. Those two are zebrasoma and acanthurus so, paracanthurus (Hippo tang) or ctenocheatus (sp.) are probably be your best bets. Naso's get quite large, but they probably have the best personalities IMO.

I have a yellow and sailfin together in 135. They seem to be fine. The yellow which is smaller seems to be a little more aggressive but the size difference keeps him in check. No nipping just flaring of fins at feeding time but besides that they actually hang out close to each other most of the time. Had a powder brown with them (he fought the good fight with the ich but never could kick it) he was never bothered by either of the other tangs, and could really have cared less about them. I had added the yellow, sailfin and powder on the same day.

I have also been told that the problems really begin in their adult phase but we will see.
