Coming along great! How big are the holes for the drains? They look huge!
I see you're using the Mag7 for the return, it's gonna be pushing a little over 400gph after the head loss? It might be too much flow for your sump.. Generally I was told that 6~10 times of the sump water volume should be the return gph, so let's say you have 18 gallons in the sump, the return flow should be 108~180gph. You can ask 2in10 (John) above about this flow thing. He's the one who pointed out for me to begin with.

Very nice set-up. I wish I had installed that style of overflow on my tank, but it is too late now. Did you cover the back size with black plexiglass or paint it?

I spray painted the back of the tank black and built the overflow out of black acrylic. Looking in from the front, it all blends together nicely.

Alright, major major progress day. Working 5 day 12 hour shifts doesn't leave any time to get work done or update with pictures. So, on my days off, it's non stop work on the tank for me. Progress made in the past three days includes completely staining and sealing the stand, installed the plumbing, hung the lights, and yeah, pretty much almost everything is done now. There is a minor hickup right now, one of my LED drivers isn't working. I'm currently troubleshooting with Mike at Rapid LED to see what the deal is. IMO, troubleshooting with a customer at 12:30 at night is the definition of going above and beyond the call of duty as far as customer service goes. The other two strings of LEDs and the LED moonlights are working, just down one string right now. I did a practice run on the tank with tap water tonight to make sure there were no leaks anywhere and everything is leak proof so far. Wanted something to do while I wait to hear the verdict on the LED driver. The only thing left to do is drain the tap water, install the baffles in the sump, hide some wiring, and extend the drain lines below the sump water level (kind of ran a tad short on pvc pipe). The skimmer you see pictured is a Reef Octopus 110. I've never had a skimmer this big before, it blows my Aquatic Life Mini out of the water. My 50lbs of base rock from reefcleaners is in and the sand from macrorocks is here as well so everything is here to get it up and running for good once I get the driver situation sorted out. Here's some pics:

I hope they can help you out with the driver for the LED light so you don't have to send it back. Everything is looking really good.

Coming along great!!! I really wish my stand were tall like yours.. I barely have enough height/room for the sump with the bean drains. You even have a shelf ABOVE the sump, great idea!!

And yeah, Mike from Rapid is the man! I had a great experience with him. I hope you sort it out sooner than later.

How did I miss this build??? Nice setup, this is the ultimate way to go, all diy bean animal with returns through the box, and diy rapid kit to light it. Best bang for the buck by far when doing a reef setup. One thing though, you built the overflow box out of acrylic and siliconed it to a glass tank? Aren't you worried about longevity since silicone doesn't bond to acrylic?

They should all be "tagged" automatically with Bean Animal, DIY LED and we get notifications. LOL
