    Hey guys

My male lyretail anthias jumped earlier. Quite lucky, if I'm honest. I was in the room at the time (though nothing I'd done could of startled him, I was sat down calmly flicking through a magazine). Just jumped out and landed on the carpet, not moving. I heard the sound but couldn't figure what it was as I looked at the tank rather than on the floor. When I noticed, I grabbed my net and got him in it and he started jumping around, but I kept him in the net with my hand over the top. All in all, he was on the carpet for about 30 seconds tops, probably out of water for about 45 seconds. When returned to the aquarium he swam out of the net and straight into the rocks, understandably.

Anything I need to look out for or do (other than egg crate over the top of the tank!!)? Do you guys think he will be alright? Other than that - how badly does egg crate shield halide lighting, or will there not be much of a difference?

    Thanks for your help :)

i had a wrasse jump. was stuck behind my tank for close to 5 mins tryin to get him. when retreived, it was covered in dust and dog hair. lol. put him back in , 2 days later he was just fine. egg crate over the whole top will probably diffuse the light quite a bit. could you build some sort of surround for the top?

Wow, thats crazy! Okay, you've restored my hope haha.

And yes, a surround would be a much better idea, I hadn't even thought of that.

    Thanks for your reply.

Your MH might melt the eggcrate. Surround would be best. Bird netting would work also. Has same size openings as eggcrate except it is about the size of thread.

Thanks for all your comments guys. He's eating and swimming and chasing the females as usual today, couldn't tell that anything happened what so ever.

Will do a search for that thread as well, thanks for the recommendation.

First, put him back in the tank...

But seriously, its good to hear he is doing just fine. Jumping is tough to prevent with some fish, they always seem to find a way out.
