Have been continuing to search for option for a 46gallon bowfront. I am pretty sure that anthias a a group are out but what do you guys consider as a minimum aquarium size to keepa single anthias?
From my research it seems that they would not do well as a pair but only a larger group which would require a tank of 100+gallons. Keeping a single fish seems ot be ok in a smaller tank but I wonder if the stress of being kept alone when theyare used to schooling wouldcause too much stress to the fish.

I know the answers to the abvoe questions would vary depending on specific genus/species. I read an article awhile ago but am unable to find it, I am considering maybe a bartletts anthias since they seem to be one of the easier varities to keep.

46 gallons is imo too small for an anthias. I had one briefly in a 55 and though that was too small. They are a delicate critter.

ok thanks for the information, I figured it would be. its funny before I bought my SW tank I thought my options would be endless but so many of them require such large tanks. I am glad I went with the 46gal instead of a 16 or 26gal like I originally had planned!

I do love the tankits seems perfect for aquascaping my first SW scape since anything bigger would have been overwelming lol. Took me 3 days to do the 46 and in the couple months I have already noticed a few things I wish I may have done a little different to make my lifer easier or add more environment fishies.

As for a ton of fish options, there do seem to be a lot but they seem to be mostly the gobies, blennies, darters, etc that my wife is not a big fan of. Trying to find some interesting things besides are 2 small clowns to add.

Hard to find, but a Red saddled anthias stays small and does well alone. Mild mannered except with conspecifics. Mine is in a 30 gallon (for now) and is housed with an Orange Spot Filefish and some Barnacle blennies.

If you even see them in pairs or a trio, don't do it unless your tank is huge and they don't see each other much or don't , at least, feel so territorial. They were the craziest fighters I've ever seen.
