I am thinking about adding one more fish, I started to look into an anthias. How have people done with these? Do they need to eat a lot or normal? Any other facts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As a general rule thay are timid and like dimly lit tanks. I happen to think they are one of the most awesome fish but, won't own one currently because I don't think it will do well in my tank. And it's a peaceful tank;).

I have two lyretail anthias. Male and female.
Good fish to have - eat well, consistantly moving - the male likes to assert his authority in the tank tho. He makes me laugh - he squeezes into the tiniest rock crack and waits for the damsel to come past and then chases it back to the frogspawn. For some reason he hates the damsel?!

I am told (internet and lfs) that you should not keep them alone. Ideally 1 male and 4 females - but mine are living fine as a pair.

I have 3 dispar anthias in my tank and they are a very cool fish. All the information I have received on these fish is that they need to be fed 3 times a day but mine seem to do fine on 1-2 feedings. They were not timid at first at all and acclimated within a few minutes and I do recommend these as a good anthias to get. They seem to do fine on brine, mysys, and arctipods (along with live copepods in my tank). I did NOT have the same luck with a pair of evansi anthias that I purchased from my LFS. They were very difficult to get to eat any prepared food so I tried baby brine, live copepods, and pretty much any small food you can think of but I think at that point they were too far gone. I have heard other horror stories with these as well so if you see them at your LFS stay away unless the LFS can show you they are eating prepared foods.

thanks for the input, i may have to forgo them because I really only have enough room for 1 more fish. If they like groups, I don't want one to be left out. Also, I don't want to have to worry about feeding them often. Thanks for all of the advice
