will the anti syphon hole work if it comes out of my overflow box? or does it have to be in the main tank.I have my hole 2 inches down from the top of my overflow, but inside the overflow,I ask because Im thinking about pressure in the DT pushing water out of the holes that I drilled.Anyone??

If it get air when the pump shuts off it will work.

so the water pressure will not push water and come out of the little holes? My returns into the tank are about 6inches down from the waterlevel in the display

well I drained the overflow and water is still pissing out of the holes.Like I said the pressure is pushing water up and out.before I had the return hanging over the edge and it worked perfect, now it pees water when pump is off

Raise your returns so they are just under the surface and will be exposed to atmosphere with just a slight backflow. No holes to clean and an air gap wil not fail. I flow back a maximum of 3.8 gallons out of my 100G with this configuration.

well I tried again.....still syphoning thru the return, cant figure this out,Im thinking about going the dual overflow (herbie) method and run the return over the edge of tank like before,I really like having the returns come out of the overflow though, looks clean

Do you have a picture of your plumbing? That would help us help you. Overflows and returns should not be an issue if plumbed correctly, no drilled holes or check valves are needed or wanted since both require maintenance and still there is no guarantee they will work when you need them.
