I was just curious about how many of you also have a vegetable or flower garden? this is the first year I have ever tried a garden. I chose a veg garden and this is it. Its about 15' x 15' and I took a shovel and dug down 3 feet to remove all the grass and roots. I then filled the enormous hole with "clean" dirt and amended the soil with organic fertilizers and mulch. I planted from seeds in the beginning of March and had a few bad storms that wiped everything out so then I started with plants from the local garden center. I got everything planted the last time near the end of March after most of the storms had past and now here is my garden today. So far I have harvested green beans, carrots, lots of lettuce(green and red leaf). My tomatoes are flowering and there are tassels on the corn.
I have found the same kind of enjoyment from my garden that I get from my tank. The only difference is I dont worry about dirty hands in the garden and its a whole lot cheaper than a tank.

I've been doing a lot of yard work with planting since I got my house 2 years ago. The PO left a lot of blank slate on an acre to do landscape work. I put in 20 rose bushes last summer and they are doing great. I also put in a lot of bulbs, some flowering shrubs and a honeysuckle. I put in some rhododendrons, and azaleas, but a couple of those were very tempting for the deer last winter, so I need to use some burlap around them this late fall. Of course the fiance has her annuals that I don't mess with. I only plant stuff that will come back every year and leave the annuals to her.

As far as edible stuff, I have several pots and planted of herbs (thyme, basil, mint, rosemary, chives, cilantro, sage, others. I had 6 tomato plants last year, and we canned most of them for red sauce. Since the tomatos did well last year, I got about 20 this year in our small garden and in a couple planters. Those ll need to go int he ground now as they are getting large for their little seedling pots.

Plus, I have a beer holder on my lawn tractor. I count that as gardening too.

We used to have a nice veg garden until my parents decided to stop planting it. We've had green beans, all sorts of peppers, strawberries, blueberries, pumpkins, watermelons (my favorite), and other junk I don't like such as squash and stuff :p Now that plot of land has day lillies in it or something like that, and we have a few tomato plants on our porch in planters.

I had a nice venus fly trap for a few years, but it didn't survive the winter :( But I do plan on getting another one ASAP. Also I plan on having my own veg garden whenever I get my first house. Which will be forever away from now, but yeah it's happening :D
