Guys Please help. I woke up this am and my yellow tang was very white, my clowns were on oppsite ends of the tanks and looked lost and the other fish were nowhere to be found. My yellow tang started to bounce off the bottom and into the rocks and glass. I immediatly checked ph, amonia and everything at that point. Nothing seemed off ph was at 8.2 ammonia was 0. Now here is what im curious about. I put a new skimmer on yesterday and my tanks previus one was a total pos and really did nothing. I noticed before the tang was out from behine the rocks that the water was crystal clear. I was shocked at the clarity and couldent wait to see the fish. Thats when I noticed everything acting weird then the wife even spurted out hey mike they look like something is wrong why are they doing that(clowns they are hers). So I noticed that the skimmer was over producking and I had it turned up to hight and some of the gunk diid get into the tank and turned it down 10 minutes later everything was getting color back and acting better and the rest of the fish weree coming out to play. Is this the culprit. the yellow tang has looked white the past few days in the am. Its a new to the tank full grown tang so its not one that was easy to find or even cheap(not that I want to lose any fish). Sorry for the long post just trying to give as much detail as possible i just bought a hippo tang and was planning on putting it in here weds so now im even more worried! Here are my readings

    sp gravity 1.022
    ph 8.2
    kh 8
    nitrates .5
    nitrites 0
    calcium 480
    mag 1280
    phoshates 0

basically it's a titanium probe that goes in the tank has a lead that you attach to the ground on your wall outlet and if there is any voltage leak in the tank it grounds it all out, electricity and fish dont mix well

maybe they were sleeping? I know my clowns kind of gravitate towards to the top and just wiggle slowly when the lights are out...

Sounds like you woke them up to me. When fish are asleep at night time, they always seem to lose their colours.
Nothing to worry about, your fish are fine IMO

well from personal experience, when fish start bouncing off the rock/glass/sand(swimming sporadically) those have never been good signs in my tank and they have usually died. I do know in my case it was because of high ammonia levels... But in your case I do not know. Maybe they got stressed out from the new skimmer and the litttle gunk that got into the tank.
