Just bought a new camera. I've never had any formal photography lessons. I'm going to have to figure it out by pushing buttons.

I am looking at purchasing either a Canon or a Nikon DSLR, so I will be going through the same thing very soon! Good luck, and I can't wait to see some gorgeous pictures!

I shot the Canon Rebel line for a few years. If you have any questions just ask.

I actually have that same camera. I like it a lot, but am still getting to know how to use it. I have found that the custom white balance has come in quite handy, especially when shooting blue corals or fish. It allows you to get the true color of the coral. I also recommend using the manual mode the "M" on the wheel so you can set your own white balance, ISO and shutter speed etc.

What are you using to set your white balance? I've been learning pretty quickly. Definitely in manual mode. Anyone can use auto modes;D

I use either a white part of the sand or find a white plastic lid or something similar and hold it in the water. You can achieve different white balances by the angle you hold the lid at and the depth.

You just need the center circle in the view finder to be the color you want to use.
