8 grams of .917.. 50 a gram usd currently.. numismatic coins are a whole nuther ball game.. is it graded, slabbed? mintage figures, mint marks? if it were rare it would be.. about 1% of all the sovereigns minted are collectible. If I were buying, Id load up at the airport in bullion, its usually duty/tax free.

By your description the 2 coins you have are fake. The George V soverein coins were minted from 1911 - 1932 and the reverse side with the 1887 would belong to a Victoria soverein minted from 1871 - 1893

He has 2 different sovereins there.
The 1887 is a small head Victoria soverein
The second Victoria young head was minted between 1871-1887 when the shield was replaced with St. George and the Dragon. Also the date was now moved from the front of the coin to the reverse side. there were also some other small changes including a mint mark added just below the neck.

To celebrate Victoria's 50th Jubilee year an updated new portrait was commissioned to illustrate a better likeness to the queen. The portrait was done by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm and received a lot of criticism as it appeared to make the queen look bad tempered or angry. Victoria is wearing a small crown and veil and the initials J.E.B. can be found at the bottom of the head. The Full Jubilee Sovereign was produced for six years and only ever had the St. George reverse.

And the second with the gentemans head is a George V.
During the reign of George V the sovereigns produced have two different heads or portraits. The first of which commonly known as the large head appeared between 1911-1928. The second portrait commonly known as the small head appeared between 1928-1932. On the reverse side both full and half sovereigns and both the larger and small head show St George and the Dragon.

yeah i was thinking that they where not really "minted" coins but just a gram of gold stamped with the sovereign. i did the magnet test and it didnt attract it so i think its really gold but who knows i thought they where really cool looking. So as long as it still real gold i really dont care.

Yeah it may be gold..plated. Something does not look right at all with that coin. It looks like a copy.. I would take it to a coin dealer to be for sure.

Honestly, that coin looks like a chinese knock off which if you arent aware are producing U.S. coins (mainly the key dates) by the thousands (that is what I have been reading on the coin forums). You really have to know what you are buying before actually buying any coin now-a-days. there are to many reproductions out there that you can trust anyone (look on ebay). Heck, the chinese (and it may not just be them) that are producing fake PCGS slabs and are getting pretty darn good at it too. it's getting scary.
