For our local work on the US Navy ships when it's a quick job and scuba is required I use a full face OTS Aga mask. I love it. Communications with topside are great.

Is that the same thing we used to call a "Kirby-Morgan Band Mask" back in the day? We played with one in the training pool once.

Thats awesome! The Kirby Morgan band mask is different. The band mask is basically the surface supplied hard hat without the shell. The aga is a low end full face. Still $1400 or so but not as much as the $3000+ band mask. The band masks are only allowed to be used for inspections now, due to the fact that you have no head protection during work. I was able to dive one during my training. (Got to take it off and put it back on underwater too. It was so much easier than the super light 17 that's for sure.) also dove a working Mark V, that was fun. A real piece of history.

Back to the topic. Seems like a real nice shell. The best part of these is your face stays dry, and communications. Just makes for a longer day feeling comfortable.

WOW...I bet diving the Mk V was way cool! Definitely a piece of diving history.

The whole line of questioning regarding full face rigs is because I used to dive...a LOT, however 30 years ago, I had to quit due to health problems (seizures). They've been under control since '92 (that was the last one I had), and we've been asking about rigs that might be a bit "safer" for me "just in case".

Since I'm on meds, I'd need to stay on the shallow side, but there are lots of cool things that are shallow. I've gotten mixed thoughts from various doctors on the subject, but most seem to feel it will be OK if I'm careful and take precautions.

I'm sorry to hear about that Greg.
IMPO I would say that a full face would be the safest bet if that ever happened again (hoping not). I use a full face when doing my working dives. Before that I have has my reg kicked out of my mouth and free flow at 70', knocked almost out by a 55g lift barrel (another diver pushed it and it slide and knocked me against the bottom of a ship. Lol both the same guy.) all this with a standard reg. since switching to the Aga I have had similar instances and not once (knock on wood) have I had a malfunction with the mask. Been kicked and knocked in the face and it stayed on and no issues. In the case of a medical condition as you stated I would not assume that the rig would fall off, as a reg might fall out of your mouth.
As long as you have a buddy diver to keep you at your current depth or bring you up I would say you should be fine if something were to happen.
If it were me I would go full face all the way. Their not cheap but man I believe their the safest out there.
*again this is my opinion and from personal experience. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374690579.009651.jpg
That's my rig. Yea it looks beat up but It's because it my working rig. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374690718.455974.jpg
And my other rig just for fun.

    Very cool stuff.

Yeah...I know what you mean about stuff getting knocked/kicked loose. I had to jump into the the water once when a noob was following their buddy too closely and got their reg kicked out of their mouth at about 70' (I was the safety diver). They proceeded to try and bail out of their gear OTW the surface, and got to see what the DC chamber at the isthmus on Catalina looked like. They were OK, but were taken there as a precaution.
