Picked up this skimmer from my lfs yesterday. From the reviews ive found on here and elsewhere seems to be a pretty decent skimmer. Replacing a no name chinese skimmer that Ive been running for 6 months and seems to be working fine but I am upgrading my sump refugium this weekend and decided to get something a little bit bigger. My biggest question is it says its rated from 40g to 120g....Im thinking that means it will handle a heavily stocked 40g to a lightly stocked 120g?? I have a 57 gallon DT with a soon to be online DIY 29 gallon sump/refugium..running mostly lps, zoas, with 2 black ocellaris, purple firefish, orange spotted goby, royal gramma, orange mandarin, 2 cleaner shrimp, misc snails and hermits, sandsifting star...im sure it will perform better then my current skimmer, but just wanted to ask anyone with first hand experience how it performed.
    Thanks

I have an Eshopps S-100 on my 55 gal w/ 30 gal sump and it has been working great for a year now! Pulls out nice dark skimmate every week. Set it once, and you are good to go. I just do weekly cleanings of the skimmer cup and that is it. The 120 should work great with your setup!

Thanks for the feed back. I was really impressed with how well put together it is and how easy and far you can break it down for cleanings.

Agreed! I actually just picked up their 150 cone skimmer off Ebay for relatively cheap, so I am excited to see how it will do once I tie a couple of my tanks together.

    Marshall,

We've been running a S-150 cone on our 100 gal, and it works really well. Good skimmate production, easy to adjust, stays adjusted, etc. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

Thanks for the feedback! I just got done bringing my DIY sump with refugium on line this afternoon and this skimmer is already pulling some junk out. I had it running in a bucket of ro/di water for a couple days to see if it would help the break in along(probably didn't), and thought it was broken cus the bubbles it was producing were huge. Got it in the new sump with sw and bam, tiny tiny tiny bubbles.. So far so good. Hope I can get it dialed in in the next day or so but I can already tell I'm going to like it!

Awesome! It can take a week or two for a brand new skimmer to break in. This is when you will see the micro bubbles from the output. It can be tough to get it dialed in correctly until it is broken in, but once it is, you should not need to adjust it again!

This skimmer is a very common design that a lot of manufacturers have used for quite some time. Looking at it, it looks very close to my octopus. Although I have never used one, I know the design works well and you shouldn't have to mess with it once you get it broken in. To be honest, my skimmer pulls skimmate no matter where I set it. They are a great design.

I have this skimmer on a 58 with 20 gallon sump, moderately stocked and running pellets. It's whisper quiet and a consistent producer. I think this is about it's limit though, I wouldn't feel comfortable running this on a tank 90+.
