    Hey there! ;D
I'm looking to meet people in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada and all of Central Alberta (or really anyone for that matter) who have taken a sweet interest and passion for marine keeping. At the moment I'm trying to do a bit of research on the damand for ornamental fish and corals in our surrounding area for a small home based business. My greatest passion is learning all I can about propogating corals and breeding certain fish that are in high demand. We don't have a local saltwater store and the few people that we've met that have marine aquariums feel that it's an annoying inconvenience to have to travel at least an hour away for their livestock! :-/ We figured that this would be the perfect opportunity to start a business that doesn't exsist here in Red Deer. We've gone to the local pet stores that only sell freshwater fish and asked them why they don't sell saltwater. Their answer was simply because of a large staff turn-over, high maintenance and expenses! It's just too costly and time consuming for them to constantly be training new employees on saltwater. We want to know if there would be a market for this fantastic hobby here in town and the only way to find out is to try and meet people who have taken on the passion. Anybody out there who owns a business or has a lot of experience in the marine world that would like to share some advice or valuable input on how to begin this journey would be so greatly appreciated!!! I really didn't know where to post this so I hope I'm in the right spot! Oooh so much work to do and so many things to learn....MAN, this really is a lot of work but hopefully will be so worth it in the end!
Thanks so much to all that have taken the time to check out this post....look forward to hearing from you!

I just started in here and am just going on the hunt for saltwater stuff like a real protien skimmer this time! I had a 33 gallon tank but i moved and had to give it up. Then i stumbled across a 75 and quikly and cheaply made it into a freshwater tank and am still regreting that move.now i want to take it slow and learn everything beforehand and find a distributor closer!and somemore good books. so if you have the store or anything that might help at all just write please i need help!

I'm from olds have a saltwater tank and love it. Not much around here for fellow reefers and the guy running the pet store by the tattoo shop is insulting and has horrible pr skills so I go to calgary but everything is overpriced. I as well would like to start doing this to make money like coral farms but don't have all the equipment I need. Do you have a tank up and running? Look forward to your reply

There is a salt water store in red deer but i do not recomend it. He knows what he is doing but very bad at keeping things presentable and NO! PR skills. Farming coral is harder than it sounds and very expensive to start up for tanks, lighting(very improtant), additives, feeding but its a labor of love. I am selling frags and have a business setting up salt water tanks and getting them up and running. I do custom tanks of all sizes and can get tanks set up for beginners all the way to the advanced tanks. I see this was posted a long time ago hope you are still part of 3reef as it is a great place for advice and questions.

It was too bad someone starting here and for his first post, there wasn't a reply for almost 4 months, and now, a year and a half later, he gets welcomed.
From his profile page it looks like he only hung around waiting for about 3 months though.
