Currently i have a 12 gallon Eclipse. The filtration has been alright so far, despite having the biowheel. (I have been able to manage the amount of nitrates and such). But my real question is an idea on how to modify the canopy. It only came with a ballast that can hold a 13w and basically its kind of a piece of crap. So i wanted to change to a Coralife aqualight retrofit compact fluorescent kit (the 96w) Is this a good idea? Any better suggestions, like self built canopy?....etc

    thnx

Are you talking about the 18" retrofit - 4 tube lamp? That might workdepending on how much room is in the canopy. Take a look at nanotuners - they carry all sorts of retrofits for cubes, etc

I had the same tank when I first started not a very good tank for salt water the problem your going to run into is that the tank is going to over heat thats why they put a small light in to begin with I bought the 50/50 bulbs from petco and added them in along with the light that was already in there but you still might need a fan to cool it down. I personally would get a different tank. (nano or biocube)

    I'd ditch the hood altogether...it is HORRIBLE...my g/f has the 15g and we used a HOB wet/dry as a "sump/fuge" and a coralife 4bulb 96W to hang over it
