I added a torch coral awhile back and as soon as it started to look good one of my small clownfish started to host it and now the torch is a little smaller. I did some reading about how a toadstool leather is an acceptable host so I bought one tonight. I got it ready for the tank put down where I had picked out and to my surprise the little polyp things on it are already poking out, I've read where it could days or a week for them to come out. I'm sure this has been asked a million times but any idea how to coax that clown out of the torch and maybe into the leather? The torch is my favorite right now and don't want it damaged

Hmmm. My clown was interested in my frogspawn, but when my toadstool got bigger the clown hosted in there. But I didn't really coax it, it just kinda happened.

Which is bigger, your torch or your leather? Not sure that's what it was, but maybe.

Not sure if you can; I'd think that the clown would want the torch only unless the toadstool looks more "attractive" to it.

The leather is bigger, it's probably at least 5 times bigger then the clownfish, it's a real pretty toadstool with a purple tint and seems to like my lights and where I put it

Some of the guys at my lfs told me the clown in the torch is not a good idea and can kill the torch

my concern would be more of the clown getting too aggressive in the torch and possibly tearing the flesh of the torch by forcing it against the skeleton. Hope that makes since, it does in my head. LOL

That's exactly what they told me jbb, and I don't know if I'm just paranoid or what but the torch looks "stressed out" with the tentacles real long and stringy and they were kinda chubby

Do you have another tank you could put the torch in? Maybe if you remove it for a bit, it will move to the leather and then you could put the torch back.

I got a five gallon tank i use for qt but the light is just a power compact, i may have an extra t5 fixture i could put on it. I got an idea I'm gonna try in the morning, my two clownfish go to the opposite tank when I wipe the outside with a papertowel, I'm gonna tape a piece of white paper on the glass by the torch and see with happens, they literally hate me for awhile when I clean the outside
