I use an octopus xtreme 160 skimmer - got it about 2 months ago. I am noticing a reduction in the output of skimmate lately, and when I look at the mixing chamber I notice more water and less air.

I have not yet cleaned the pump (will do so tonight), but not sure whether that will help the air intake. Any suggestions? (BTW, I am using the needle wheel, since I don't know how to change it to the mesh).

I have a Octo 200... Haven't ever really been thrilled with it...
I clean my pump, take it apart and soak in vinegar. Make sure the air tube is clean from debris as well. Clean the needlewheel after you soak that, if there is gunk in it just use a toothbrush or something to get it out if need be.

To do a mesh mod you need the Enkamat, or however them Germans spell it, you would need to cut all the pins off of your current wheel. Then cut 3 layers or so of the mesh to the size of the wheel and attach with say fishing line.
I made the mod but have never used yet. I am still using the ATB purple pinwheel.

I should've gotten a kill a watt if I really wanted to do the mod properly, but since I have the PPW I didn't go fullhog on the mesh....Sooner or later I will fire it up and see how it goes.

Search Sicce mod or mesh mod and you will find a few threads and pics showing the process.

    Good luck.

Thanks Dr. Frag. The company I bought the skimmer from actually sent me a pre-made mesh wheel, but no instructions on its installation - I'll check out the links you sent me. K+ for the info!
