Hey guys. curious thread to me (more curious is the amount of time it took me to read the above post....annoying to us old folks)

If you are solid with your corals no reason to have fish troubles - unless you are trying too many at once. Slow it down and try just one addition. Make sure your tank is grounded, so many people don't ground the tank and wonder why corals do better than fish. When you add a new fish don't go over feeding - several people step up their feeding schedule to "see the new fish eat" guess what, it looks like all the rest, so ease up with it.

Some one said clowns are aggressive...spot on. but they are not ocean killers - you should be able to add at least a butterfly without issue, very hardy fish and great to have in your reef.... ground the tank if its not and add just one butterfly and don;t change your feeding schedule and see how you do. good luck !

I was kind of thinking this too... you might have a particularly mean one. I think youve been at this long enough to know about 1 fish every few weeks, feeding, etc.... so Im leaning more towards that...

my false perc has killed more than one new fish from harassment and biting and tossing maneuvers.

QT the maroon for a few weeks when you add the next fish... as an experiment if nothing else... I know you like experiments ;)

I too have had simular probs ,2yrs running my tank and the Fish just dont seem to stay around long 4-6mths I personaly have come to the conclusion that 3 fish is the max for my particular set up (kinda natures way of keeping a balance)
I have a Hippo tang who has gone from around 3/4 to 2 1/2" a 1 3/4" true perc and a little 6line as my current ressies.
during this 2yr time I have never had more then 5 fish in my 55gl and all fish have been in good health (until they died) ie just sudden deaths with no real tell tail signs of illnesses
for the last 8mths its been the same 3 fish I just moved the tank and everything is fine not even a single spot of ich on the blue Hippo tang.

So in summery I think all tanks have a different fish keeping capacity (kinda natures way of keeping a balance)

here are my thoughts on fish. kept free from stress and well fed they do just fine. isolating them before introducing them to the tank to reduce transit stress and to make sure they feed works wonders. Also, I always add fish at the beginning of the dark cycle. Clowns can be mean too, something to look into.

well maroon is in separate tank. no problem there. but it was just referring to my problem in my all fish dead thread. All parameters normal situation messed up. I try to always take things slow and only had 3 fish in a 100 gal system. six line wrasse, dimond gob, coral beauty, blue chromis. That is my opinion is not alot of fish. It was all so sudden one morning alive and that eve all dead. but like I said coral alive. system grounded and nothing out of the ordinary with the tests. I guess I am just missing something. It is a real mystery to me. I would have to think that the answer is some small detail or something I really don't know about. Maybe some ailment. I am going to try after vacation to add more fish to that tank.

10 -- I'll say I've had less luck with fish then corals. In the two years I have been doing this I have only lost 1 coral. That was a xenia. The only reason I lost is was because I raised the temp in the tank to try to treat Ick. Ended up loosing both the coral and the fish.

Looks like you're not alone on this one.

It really is a part of reef keeping, that you will go though more fish than corals.

It really does suck when all fish die overnight though....
