Hey I know this has nothing to do with reefing, but...... I was wondering if there were any shed hunters out there.?. I've gone out a few time lately but have come up empty handed. I think this weekend i'll be able to spend more hours in the hills since i'm at a stand-still with the 150 build for now.

Also anyone use trail cams? Post some pics of what you've captured if so

    Thanks

Them things in 'yer back yard.... j/k
A shed is an antler that falls off deer/elk. In my area the deer start loosing them in late feb through march. I noticed the other day the elk are starting to loose theirs now. They grow new antlers every year

ahh, ok. i am by no means a scientist of any sort. but probably like most of us here have been into animals forever. i never new that antlers were shed untill last year. some guy at work told me. i didnt belive him at first. just seemed crazy that some of the large antlers were grown in a years time

I've thought about training my younger lab on sheds to make a little extra cash. But it would take quite a few Whitetail antlers to equal one good bull elk drop. If I still lived in Wyoming I definately would. But my eyes are always combing the grass when I'm out and about this time of year. Haven't found anything respectable for quite awhile.:)

Depends in your area when shedding will happen. Here in Massachusetts I have seen deer shedding at the end of Dec, into Jan. Finding deer sheds can be very hard, since mice & other critters eat the sheds for the calcium. That is why most of them found have been chewed.

I hunt Allagash, Maine which is a 9 hour drive. My friend & I have found some really nice Moose sheds, one that was dropped from a moose that was trashing around the woods right in front of me, it weights 30lbs and that is just one side. I gave it to my friends 80 year old dad & he has it on his fireplace mantel. I have pics of it somewhere. I'll dig them up.

I finally got drawn for turkey this year, so I'll be out there in a few weeks scouting and looking for sheds. The roads are still closed. Snow is still melting and everything is really muddy up north. We had the biggest snow pack in over 100 years. Love that GW.
