Where in central Oregon are you from ?

My Fiance is from Portland (not originally) but we rugged camp out by John Day fossil beds area, the Metolious, and Ochoco NF quite a bit.

I have seen some beautiful elk out there.

I live in Redmond. Metolious unit is awesome place, lots of big bucks there due to the limited number of tags issued. Never been to John Day, but I have riden my motorcycle plenty of times to a small town called Mitchell, just outside John Day. We ride along the painted hills through a town called fossil. Beautiful country. Ochoco is really nice too, good place to see the elk, but i stay far away during rifle season as it can get a bit crazy congested up there. Just beyond the Ochoco's from me is a unit called Maury. I met a guy with a 7000 acre ranch out there in a small town called Post. I have hiked his hills many times and am amazed at the wildlife out there. Tons of 'yotes, Deer, Elk, Antelpe, Bobcats and cougars. I have yet to see a cat there, but have come across many cat kills. He shot a cougar a week after i payed a visit and hiked his hills last february. Only thing he hunts are coytes and cats, the rest he leaves alone which makes it a great place to capture pics. His ranch is the only place i've been able to call in coyotes within minutes. They howl back alot in the evenings due to no one constantly calling and makin them get too smart to the call.

Yeah, Mitchell is the closest town by where we camp in Ochoco.

That little store in Mitchell is a riot. If you need beer, it is warm of course and right next to the cat food in cans. LOL

Good thing the stream is cold, that chills the beer out well;)

Here in NY I cant buy a place to hunt anymore. I once had hundreds of acres to hunt. now my own family is pushing me out...haha they cant stand the competition. Anyways love jerky, very rarely do I find any drops/shreds. Most of the deer in my area cant get past age 2-3 because of poaching and a large number of hunters. I guess hunting the northern zone with thousands of acers of forest and smaller deer population all add up to a lot of chipmunk sightings, but not so many deer. but I still love it.. sitting out and looking at all of Gods creation is the best thing ever.

I own my own land, and wouldn't have it any other way.
Plus I get to boot trespassers off my land. That's an added bonus.

My father in laws owns 150 acres, not much but its something. problem is, he has a huge christmas tree farm on it, so most is open trees and field. behind it is a huge state forest but again, competing with other hunters on that also. I had thought about doing some food plots, but my luck the deer would be taken from the state land as they move in to feed...lol

Ya Mitchell is something else. I had a burger there and there were flies all over the place, man's gotta eat though . Cool part of that town is the bear, i'm sure if you were there you may have seen him.?. Caged up in the middle of town

Yeah, we have a draw for turkey here. Not that easy to get drawn eithor. Keep in mind, we have alot more stuff that eats them here too. Not to mention all of the other big game in Arizona to manage.

well hiked my tail off today with my brother and dog. Was a beautiful day, but no sheds. :( However we did encounter 8 deer, and a dead rabbitt. I have a feeling we spooked off what ever was eating it, looked to be the work of a hawk or eagle. Well at least by the looks of it.
