Great fish! Tough as nails. Mine has a cave too and is a bit territorial but a good addition.

Great fish. We bought one and didn't see him for 3 weeks. My wife was so pissed because she picked him out. One day he finally appeared and was hiding in a rock. MY 6 line and coral beauty were really harassing him. That went on for about a week and then they just gave up. Now everyone is happy and the Gramma is out all day. Active and wonderful fish.

    Thanks for the positive responces.

No I will not be ordering online. My LFS has three to choose from. How do I know what one to pick?

Ask the LFS to feed them. Pick the one that is eating. Also, looks healthy.

Wow, i'm in the same dilemma. Purchased three fish yesterday, one of which is a royal gramma. Thing is, after putting him in the tank, i never seen him again. So i figured he jumped out because its an open top tank, but you guys are giving me high hopes that he's buried in my LR

Pick the fattest/sketchiest one. My experience with this fish over many years is ich. Tough fish on one hand and susceptible to external parasites in the other. I don't think this fish is nearly as tough as it is portrayed.

I have had 3 of them, none had issues with ich... Then again any fish at anytime can get sick..

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Absolutely love this fish. I have never had a serious problem with one.

Just watchout for changing the aquascape, I can not tell you how many times I took a rock out only to see my royal gramma flopping about on the floor soon afterwards. Their instinct to hide in rock work also makes them easier to catch, just remove the rock.

Again thanks for all the responces. One more question. Are these fish jumpers? My tank has an eggcrate cover ready to go on if I need it.

I found mine looking crispy two weeks after he went missing behind the tank. I couldn't believe he jumped. I havent heard of them being much of jumpers though.
