Thanks for all the ideas. I may still go with a small hippo if he gets to big at least I know I'm doing something right.

You will be fine if that is the fish you want. There are more "rules" about tangs than any one person can keep straight! Drop an airstone somewhere in the sump, overflow etc. to make sure there is plenty of oxygen, then watch whatever tang you choose grow and thrive!!

I've got a Vlamangi,Kole, and a Sailfin, in my 210. They all get along well. I wouldn't recommend the Vlamangi, as it gets huge. Mine is about 12 inches, with beautiful streamers.
The Kole is my Favorite, by far. Awesome fish. If i was to get another i'd get a Blond Naso. Another gorgeous fish.
I never had much luck with the Yellows, for some reason. I had 2 and both died. Not going down that road again.
Whichever Tang you wind up with, i'd most definitely get a cleaner wrasse. Especially with a Hippo.Ich is a major problem with Tangs, and nothing works better at getting rid of Ich, then a cleaner wrasse. I wouldn't have Tangs without one. Just make sure you see them eat frozen food before bringing it home. They really don't have a long lifespan, but if they will accept frozen food, you'll keep him around for a while.

these "rules" are to prevent fish from getting the ich that tangs are so known for. We all know that stress causes a fishes immune system to drop therefore making him succeptable to parasitic disease. If the tank is not large enough for a tang, you shouldn't get one. PERIOD! With that being said, I would say go for a kole tang or a tomini tang. They stay quite small and have awesome personalities.

I have a Sailfin and a hippo both around 4-5 inches long and they get along really well I think They both eat frozen food that I change from day to day Mysis, Spirulina Brine, Mega Marine , Mega Marine Algae The Sailfin will eat Spirulina Flakes the Hippo wont touch then however. And the wierd thing is neither one will touch seaweed sheets or Lettuce of any kind.
