I finally figured out what to do with my skimmer situation, I have bought a Hydro Performer skimmer and placed this one in my reef tank and took my ASM skimmer into the new tank which is only going to be FOWLR.

Does anybody have this skimmer, how do you like it? The book said 3-7 days before it even starts foaming properly. Did you find that true? Right now it does not seem like the foaming pump is stirring up the water very well...barely getting to the lower 1/3 of the neck. The neck is gigantic on this thing..I measured it at over 3" tall before it even hits the bottom of the cup! Doesnt seem like the most effective way to skim in my opinion but what do I know...I am on my 3rd skimmer before I found one that fit:yelrotflm

actually I am finding out that the book was right on....day 3 and foam is increasing and starting to see a lot more skimmate...which is good as this is my reef tank. My fish are starting a protest against me because I have not fed them much due to the skimmer breaking in...but today they ate well. I fed my corals and everyone is happy!

However I do have to go BACK TO THE STORE AGAIN!!! as the box was open when I got it and I thought i had a piece missing...which I do. It is the top of the adjuster arm and thought maybe I could get away without it but now as it breaks in, water is coming up out of that piece also as well as out the drain pipe...so will be taking that piece off the display model tonight!!!

Not sure what oils they used on this piece of equipment but I have some radioactive skimmate right now in my cup...it is the brightest green that I have ever seen...scary. I will keep everyone up to date on how I like this one...pricer then the other ones I have had but will see! Hydor is supposed to be a good brand and like I said is is VERY SOLID!

I guess the neck being so tall is to prolong the contact time? Not sure.

I can not figure out this skimmer. Right after I posted this I had really great skimmate. I emptied the cup I think on Sunday and since that time I have only had a scant amount of skimmate. The bubbles are back down to the very lower part of the neck and everything is on full power. This skimmer is in my reef tank so it should be pulling a lot more out....grrrr!
