I have the same thing in my tank. They grow rapidly, have two clusters, one with three "stalks" and one two. They shrivel up if moved into shade, no clue what they are but I'll be following along.

looks to me like a strand of CHAETOMORPHA algae. its a great thing to have in your tank. it will out compete unwanted algae.

    Chaetomorpha Macro Algae
Chaetomorpha Algae is best known for its excellent benefits for use in refugiums and sumps for marine tanks. This macro algae grows rapidly and has a look very similar to spaghetti. The benefits of using this macro algae in refugiums and sumps is that it will help reduce elements in the water column that contribute to microalgae (hair algae) growth. This algae should be kept under a high level of lighting and strong water current.

Well thats good news it is not something bad. I have no sump or refugium and my lights are power compacts, will take a stab at this and say it will not be long lived.

    Thanks for the input.

If you look real close, the body of this is green but than it has a short span of transparency and then turns green again. I have watched it closely and it actually seems to move...but it could be water current.

I don't know if its chaeto, I looked it up and looks different to me. Genesis, does yours look white with a green, kinda transparent covering on the outside? I know that if you move the rock it will grow towards the light. Maybe someone has another ID?

I would not say it is white with a green transparency. It really looks like a plant that has just started sprouting with the exception of the transparent white in that small span. Should I move the rock and see what happens?
