i just picked up a 40gal long tank two weeks ago froma friend that broke it down. was used with TAP water so there was crazy lime buildup, TDS residue, etc all over the glass. I used a 5:1 water:bleach solution to clean it up. the bleach took care of everything including the lime buildup and all i used to get everything off was a razorblade and a hand towel to dry the area.

after 24 hours of drying i hit the tank again with a solid wipe down and rinse with straight RO water. rinsed it again two more days in a row to insure no bleach residue.

anyhow thats how i personally went about cleaning the inside of mine. the "magic eraser" by itself isnt going to do much. however the magic eraser + some bleach water will probably yield good results.

All the marks on the inside of the glass from before will vanish once filled again. Trust me i've done it several times. You may see it for a few days but it will go away.
