HOB refugiums add extra weight to the back of your tank. I have heard of the backs blowing out from the added weight... To be more specific I have heard acrylic tanks are more prone, but it is rare...

 

Would it be more stable on my glass aquarium if it were on the side?

 

You can always build a small table/ledge that is can sit on while hanging on the back of your tank. Most of the weight if not all of it will be supported by the stand/ledge/table.

 

I wouldn't think so, but I could be wrong.

A little stand would be a good idea.

But, does this pose any effect on my params?

 

Heres what I did instead of buying a 200 dollar aquafuge. I bought a cheap HOB emperor filter, the kind that takes in water and it goes through a chamber that has a filter pad, drops into another chamber, and comes out. I just took out the filter pad and put a small amount of sand on the bottom and a clump of macro with a clip-on light and its had the desired effect on my SH tank.

 

Did it effect your params LCP?
