Anyone ever added a fuge to a BC before?

I was looking into doing a DIY sump/refuge for my BC 29. I have the Oceanic stand that goes with it, i think the inside dimensions are around a 20" square. I was thinking about just building my own cube to fit the dimensions out of plexi since no conventional sized tank fits except for a 5 gal which I have under there now for ATO. Basically I'm just looking for some ideas from you guys if you think this could work or not and how feasible it is. The only other problem would setting up the overflow to get the water down there.

I don't really see a problem with doing a fuge under it. I just did one under my Red Sea Max 250.

I don't know how well that space will work for a full sump, with both a skimmer and a fuge, though. If you already have the BC skimmer, it may not be necessary to put a skimmer underneath, if you can do the overflow in an area other than the skimmer section.

Other than maybe changing that to just a fuge, I think the biggest problem would be the overflow. Probably nothing that's premade would fit. You might have to have someone custom make one for you, or make one yourself.

This is kind of what I had in mind, just a quick paint sketch-up, no dimensions yet. The blue arrows are the planned flow direction. I have the aquatic life internal skimmer in the first section of the BC so that would probably just stay there and I would put the overflow box in the second larger chamber. I was thinking of this, the Eshopps overflow box Reef Aquarium Filtration: Eshopps Overflow Boxes with my Rio return pump in the return section, might upgrade to compensate for the larger head.

Works in my mind. I didn't even put any baffles in my fuge though. You probably should, since you're using sand.

I dunno if you want all of your flow to be from the return like that. I'd imagine the water in the chamber that's currently the "return" from the false back (all the way on the left) would get very stagnant.
