I have 4x54w on my tank and its extremely bright. But make sure you get the individual reflectors. I think the reflectors make a big difference. With 6 54W I'm pretty sure you can keep anything. Also get good bulbs ATI, Geisemann, UVL, etc..)

If I got a tek fixture would 4*54 watt do it for SPS? Keeping in mind that most people who have replied seem to have this setup for bigger tanks. Wouldn't 4*54 be much more light for my tank than it would for someone else's 75 or 90?

Papareef- did you get a 4 bulb tek or 6?

I think you guys have safely convinced me to go with a better light (Although I asked the dude about the original fixture I posted and he said the bulbs all have individual reflectors. Is that the only issue you guys had with it? If there's other stuff besides that then I'll save some more. I'd rather be safe than sorry:))

Now it seems I need to decide whether or not to go with 4 bulbs or 6. Any comments?

I have an 8 bulb fixture :) it covered the complete top of the 75,and i know it was overkill. It was bought used, 2 months old,but for 275 shipped,i couldn't pass it up..god bless RC.I now have a 100 gallon and couldn't be happier with them.just have to watch the sofies are far enough down.

    How long is your tank?

54w are pretty long. Also Check your width and make sure they all fit in there. I have 4 on my tank which is 18" wide and its pretty tight, maybe room for 1 more if I put them really close to each other.

The good thing about having 6 bulbs is not just the light output alone but also the color combination. You can move the bulbs around and get the color just like you want it.

The quality of the T5s is a combination of the ballast, reflectors, and bulbs. So do some google searches and look for reviews before you buy.
