I have a 150 high been running for about 6 or 7 years. I want to build a new sump because the one i have is no good at all. Looking for idea or any suggestions anyone might have. The stand doesn't offer much room so i need to be creative.

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe you should look at building a new stand. Although even with half the water out it would still be difficult to move.

I run two 20 gallon long's. One for the sump. The other, refugium.

I have thought about building a new stand. There is no way in hell that this tank could be moved with any water at all in it. I believe the tank is over 300lbs empty. I dont know if i want to completely empty it. Have close to 200lbs of rock and I fear I would lose a lot of livestock if i tried that.

2 20's side by side huh? Interesting idea. I am thinking about a 40 breeder. will be perfect fit underneath. I will have to remove the center brace to put it in but i have read that its ok to do as long as it isnt left out too long.

sounds like a pretty incredible tank, can you post a few pictures? Why not building cabinets and a counter-top around the tank and have a 75gal sump underneath the counter? I think that would be best because it would add a huge amount of filtration that you would have easy access to along with other room for material storage and give you many options to play with while still making the tank a center piece?

I have a pair of 30 gallon tanks under mine. One is the sump, one the refugium. The refugium is a standard 30 gallon tank, the sump is a 18" depth. allowing for a narrower profile under the cabinet.

You can find pics of how it is done in my build thread below....

Some good ideas. Yesterday I started thinking about using a large clear rubbermaid container. Would be easier to get under the tank and drill. Anyone ever try it?

yes it can be done make sure you get the types meant for food or that are safe for food.. as these will never leech plastics or w/e into your tank.
