i have a prizm filter that keeps losing its suction. i have to have it on a fairly low flow to work properly {only letting the water in at about 25% of capacity} and it keeps losing its suction and i have to prime it again. anyone know of a mod i can do to help this?

Dont know anything about those skimmers, but it sounds like its clogged somewhere. Have you checked the lines, cleaned the impeller on the pump, or just cleaned the whole system???

Do a search on "prizm" using 3Reef "search link" above - have had lots of discussion on them in past.

Best mod for a Prizm is to buy a different skimmer! ;)

I had one for around 6 months and then replaced it with a coralife, great value and works really well...ohh and it's quiet. :)

    Been there...

I started out with a "Skilter"

But what the hey??? --- it was a good "starter" skimmer, cheap, and worked (barely adequately), if you monkeyed around with it...

Not everyone can afford to spend lots of $ when just starting out. (or have not learned yet they need to.) :-/

The skimmer I now have was actually cheaper than the prizm I originally bought!! Over here in England the prizm will be in nearly every lfs as well as the seaclone. It wasn't till I seeked advice (on 3reef :) ) that I realised the skimmer was no good! Thats the problem when you start out, you go to your local supplier and assume (wrongly) that the equipment they sell is good...now I know better ;)

every now and then my Prizm loses suction also , will skim like theres no tommorow one day and will hardly skim a thing the next , its my expirience that when my salinity changes so does my skimmer and im not talking any great values with the salinity. the problems I have had with this seem never ending. but as for the suction loss be carful when using the surface skimmer as it seem to me that when the tank level i close to the bottom of the slots it the cup the the surface tention of the water may restrict the flow ?
I cant wait to buy a new Skimmer
    good luck
