So I have been looking for something to put in my 55 and as I was looking at stuff on liveaquaria I came across a Jeweled Moray Eel. I did a bit of research and think he would be a good candidate for my 55 gallon.(He will be the only animal in the aquarium incase you have not read my other thread) My research showed me he would have a maximum length of 2 feet, and that would take a while to get even to that size. Everything is checking out good with this eel but I need to know if any of you have had any experience with keeping one. I don't want to rely on a few websites to make a big purchase. Help me out guys. ;)

    Thanks,
    ~Matt G.

Make sure you have a secured lid. Atleast an inset of an inch or two. Pretty common eel.

I have a very good lid. I kept a snowflake eel once and had no problems with it ever getting close to escaping. He was quite a wierd fellow, he seemed to like swimming at the top of the water when he got excited and he tried making a break for it a few times but my lid is secure and quite heavy. Thanks for the concern though. :)

not really familiar with this one but had a tiger snake eel. it was only about 15 inches when i got it, but within a year it was at least 3 feet long. really enjoyed it, but i think maybe i fed it way too much. it would eat 8 or 9 rosey red feeders everyday if i would feed it. anyhow came home one day it was in the floor stiff as a board. i thought it was dead but put it back in the tank just to make sure and in an hour it was all over the place. before then i had never seen it try to get out. i had the glass tops but it got out next to the filter. back to the story if it doesn't get very big i say go for it. what i've dealt with eels they seem to be pretty hardy creatures.

yea i've heard of stories where eels have survived out of tanks for almost a day and some can even travel on the floor like a slow snake.

i don't know why but I never really liked mantis shrimp. everyone i seem to talk to would love to have one in a special tank, but i don't get the whole rage about them.

I'm thinking I'm going to go for it, unless I see some other cool eel at the lfs. (which I have seen quite a few in the past)
