I have a Strawberry Hawaiin Crab that I bought when my tank was first setup.. he has been living fine, hardly see him though since they are so shy..

I took him out about a month ago because I noticed some weird white things growing all over him.. kinda hard, but not hard to where I couldnt scrape them off, so I scraped it off with the tip of a butter knife..

I would almost describe it as a fungus maybe or even like a patch of spider eggs like when spiders lay them (but I know its not). I have a green emerald and it has not had this problem.. I rearranged the tank last night an noticed that it was back, what could it be? I thought I had some pics of it, but I must not have uploaded it to photobucket.. right now the crab is chillin in a rubbermaid with some LR until I can figure out what it is and if its the reason why all my fish die??

I have two of them and they have some stuff on them but they seem to being doing fine and growing. I rarely see them either but they look great when they come out. Good luck. it might be another form of algae...

Crabs often have things like algae, sponges, bryozoans, tunicates growing on them. Since your crab is missing a couple of legs it's probably having a hard time keeping its shell clean.
