A lot of the things that work in this hobby work because other hobbyists paved the way. I've not had much luck with this species. Be scientific about it and record parameters. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If it does, you've helped a whole lot of other hobbyists.

I had some success with red gracilaria, in a medium flow zone, partly shaded under a 4 bulb t5 fixture (2 white 2 blue) with stock bulbs. It eventually was choked out by other macro algae though.

I couldn't get it to grow either, had in my display and what the CUC didn't get to seemed to just melt away. Oh and my system is by no means low nutrient:-X

I'll try it in it's own container then give up after that...:-/

Now the key is to find some at an inexpensive price. It's actually almost as expensive at the wholesalers unless you buy a bunch of it and get quantity discounts.....unfortunately, everywhere I've checked is out of stock.

As I stated, I was going to give it another shot.

I received Gracilaria pacifica via CPR Aquatics (thanks Russel) who received it as Macro-Feast from Reef Nutrition (thanks Randy and Gresham). It's in a 20 gallon nano. Filtration pump is a maxijet 900. Additional circulation is provided by a Hydor Koralia nano. The lighting is a JBJ Viper 150w 14,000k. I've seen new growth (which I've seen before). I'm hoping this works well.

Unfortunately, because I've introduced two variables (more intense lighting, more intense flow) and won't be able to point out what worked. That's if it even works. I'm giving it a shot again though.

Good luck! Keep us posted, I havent been able to find any locally, and it seems like everyone shipped wants an arm and a leg for it, So ill wait till the LFS gets another batch to attempt it again
