Sounds like you have your own issues to work out;) I was hoping to keep this thread positive and on topic.

I live in San Luis Obispo where Chuck Liddell trains. My younger brother trained with him and Chucks trainer John Hackelman. I would like to train MMA but with my back problems I would probably have to tap out as soon as I was thrown on the mat.

I wanted at least one full contact fight as a personal test, but honestly I lose myself in the cage and it has become such a therapeutic thing for me that I don't care anymore.

Besides I am a teacher on my way to becoming a principal I am not sure if full contact fighting is good for my career ;D.

I have a monster kick which I am proud of

My wife owns a Martial Arts school. She's a 6th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. Be prepared for a HUGE difference between traditional martial arts training and true MMA.

Aikido will help. Joint lock knowledge and pressure point control tactics help. PPCT on where to kick... side of the thigh (common peroneal) hurt WAY more than you'd think if you know how to do it.... side of the neck (brachial plexus origin)... things like that. Grappling techniques....

Its very different. I am too old for that stuff. Some of our younger instructors play with it, but none of our train seriously. Hurts too much when teaching martial arts is your every day job.

We know several instructors from other schools that compete... young bucks. Us Old Dogs just watch....

I teach at a dojo where i live, its a mix of Shiho Karano jujitsu, Shou Shu kung fu, Chung Do Kwan tae kwon do, and Karoban eskrima, but we have a pretty good gracie bjj group that trains everyday as well. I love to roll with those guys but i found alot of the time the stand up joint manipulation doesnt work so well on the ground lol.

My advice for training MMA, which alot of people train to compete here, is Muay Thai striking, BJJ ground, and wrestling takedowns. Keep in mind that most competitions do not allow small joint manipulation
