    When I started my 10 gallon I got sand and water from the beach. It worked fine, the only thing is the water looked really green for a while, I had to filter the crap out of it to get it clear. I presume the green was phytoplankton?

    I'm from Brooklyn and the water around here is dirty. I know that the NY Aquarium uses the water from the ocean and it goes to a HUGE :eek: sump. Different times of the year the water is very green.

    As for me I use RO water and mix it myself.
