While I am quite handy I would like to change out some of the leds in my extra Taotronics fixture with some different colors. If there is anyone who lives close to Deerfield with soldering experience I would pay you for doing it for me.Shouldn't really take more then a few minutes according to Logan at RB's. I really want this done correctly and would supply all the necessary tools and leds.Want to add some violet, red and maybe greens.TIA;)

Can't help you, Vinny, but I'm really interested to see how it turns out!

I've never soldered LED's but, i have soldered copper wiring. It's not to bad if you have 3 hands lol. I find it's pretty much impossible if you don't have Flux, a lot of solder has flux in it but, it is much easier if you coat the wires with it.

Are the LED array panels(heatsink, LED, Lens) Glued together on these units?

A lot of these Chinese units are potted together.

Wish I could help you out!! Super easy to be honest, I was in the same boat as you and now I can do it with my eyes closed.

Thought......buy a few led's, a cheap DC power inverter, (or rob one from your electronics box like I have in my attic), and use a rip of plywood as a test surface and practice. No offense Vinny, but I got faith in you man. You seem like you have a trial by error kind of attitude.

Thanks for the tip.I actually do have some soldering experience as I was a Plumber for a while after I graduated High School.;)

Not sure as I am an led noob and not very knowledgable about the workings of electronics.According to Logan at RB's it is a simple thing to do but I am nervous to tackle it myself.

Thanks if I can't find someone soon I may try it. Just need to figure out exactly what I want to do as far as colors.

Yeah there aren't too many tools that intimidate me as I have been in construction my whole life.I can build a house from the ground up.Except the electrical.LOL I don't like electricity.

    I'd either:
A sell your system and buy the new reefbreeders for $199, mine is awesome
B see if Logan from RB can hook you up or
C learn to solder, I too hated the thought but had to learn to wire the typhoon, its really easier than you think. And with your attention to detiall via those badass models you do, it shouldn't be an issue;) Just practice for 5 minutes and watch a youtube video.

    As for colors I use:
    Red - rapid
    Green - Aqua Trader
    Cyan - Rapid
    Uv - Aqua Trader
    Violet - Rapid

All LEDs are 700ma supported, idk if you have picked your driver yet. If all else fails in finding someone you could always do Rapid Plug and Play like I did when I first got into LEDs.

Lastly, if you have a local tech college around you I'm sure there are some students willing to help out with soldering LEDs, you might be able to tech them a thing or two about saltwater. :)
