I realize you're looking for something cheaper, but I just wanted to say the JBJ Nano Glo light is pretty freakin' bright. If you're wanting to go cheap, you may be able to find a few cheap single LED's at Lowe's, Home Depot, or a similar store.

If you're looking to grow macro, you can also usually be ok with using a grow light that can be found at the above stores, too. Just buy a cheap ballast and the bulb. I did that with macro for a few years and it grew like crazy. Just Google something like "plant grow light bulb" and you'll find some grow lights, even LED, for around $15-20.

    I started with this...

..and it went to this pretty quickly.
