I used following method to catch a nasty 2-stripe damsel who was just too smart and to quick:

    - Get a large plastic bag, the kind LFS sell you fish in. The larger the better.
    - Submerge the bag and let it fill with water. Pin the side of the bag to the substrate with 2..3 small rocks or something. That should make it sit open. I made it face a small tunnel damsel was frequenting.
    - Fish can't see that bag under water since it's transparent and thin, eventually they'll swim in. Thats when you grab the open end and lift up. You can also try chasing him into the bag.
    - If any additional fish are cought, it's easy to remove them from the plastic bag with a small net.
    - You can thread fishing line to the bag opening and lift like that, but make sure to make several holes far from the edge or it may tear.

Above (minus the fishing line) worked for me in 10 minutes. I pinned the bag between the aquarium glass and rock wall facing the tunnel damsel often swam through. Prior to that, I spent 6h+ with nets and fish traps over the course of 2..3 days to no avail.

I don't care how much trouble a fish is causing me, I am not willing to actually intentionally harm the fish with a freaking hook! I will go to great lengths to make sure it can be removed humanely. I got into this hobby for the love of the ocean and everything within it. My hope is to create a world for them to thrive and be happy, and not be subject to predation and harm...but hey, that's just me

I've had many people return fish to the store for credit that have been caught in this manner. If there's damage, I put Hikari Bio-Bandage on the hole. I've never had a problem with them dieing. (If I did, I certainly wouldn't be giving customers credit for the fish). Obviously, we tried the fish trap first but that doesn't always work.

Everyone here loves fish. No other reason we spend the money we do on them. They are not killed or permanently injured etc. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. The fish was fine. Watched it for a week and then off the the lfs for credit.
