Sand or mud, kitty litter; whatever. If so are you having positive results: seeing bubbles rise up, etc?

I'm trying a remote DSB, but it's still far from functional being as it's still dry, clean aragonite sand....

So, yeah, no charge for the non-value added response by me. :p

I truly hope to see N2 bubbles being produced. If not, it's gonna be a big waste...

What kind of sand/mud did you use? I've heard it needs to be really fine grained to work properly.

Not sure whom you're asking, but mine I started with aragonite sand, sugar sized grains I believe...Not sure what the grain measurements are, but it's the finest sand I've ever used. Went with nonliving sand for cost savings, gonna seed the top once I get the flow dialed in... I'll start a build thread once my tank sand settles...

My fuge sand bed is about a couple of inches deep. I used fine aragonite sand that was dead & then seeded it with a couple of pounds of live sand. I have a ton of pods & feather dusters in there.. The dusters grew on there own. I'll take a snapshot now, since my lighting is on now.

Here's mine. I didn't want to go too deep on the sand bed, do to reading others having problems.

We always used deep sand beds in our refugium. We prefer to keep them in there than in the main tank. Our refugium was filthy but we wanted it to be.

Great. I picked up some Kolorscape play sand today, it says extra fine so am hoping it'll be ok. Has anybody used it for a dsb?
