Hi Matt - I bought a used one, it's an older model (maybe Litermeter I)so it's a comparably "basic" unit.
Setup was easy, I initially let it run and measured how much flow I was getting, there's an adjustment on the unit so it's Liters-Per-Day numbers are actual liters per day (this could change depending on tube length/head/etc.) This step is not necessary, but I like to know actual dose amount :)
Right now, occasionally I need to clean the very tip of the tubing running to the sump as it builds up a crunchy wad of kalk after a while (like a month for me). That's all.

IMO, the cheapo ($100) used model I use has been one of the best purchases I've made to my setup, consistant, steady, controlled flow distributed over the coarse of 24hrs. Pretty handy stuff :)
