I live pretty close to him so the shipping isn't an extra expense; is it porous enough?

I didn't even know Gulf View was still in business. I don't know what his rock is like now. Back in the day his rock was more porous than Tamba Bay Saltwater.

I bought some rock from him but it was some cheaper stuff he had, still pretty porous. I did however go to his house and see his setup and man he has some nice rock! Some of the nicest stuff I have ever seen. Rock loaded with life. So depending on how much you spend with him, you can get some really nice stuff. IF you live close you should email him and see if you can go by

Well, Dale's wife brought me over 50 lbs of live base rock today and I've got it in the tank. I'm very pleased with it. LOTs of life on it and nice pieces. I will definitely buy more from him again. Nice people with a quality product.

BUT, what should I do now? I've got it in the tank with 2 powerheads going and the temp' at 72 for the time being; should I raise the temperature and if so to what? And what about all this life like clams, mussels, hard corals etc? Do I need to cycle this stuff? I just expected some live base rock with some coralline but this has some advanced life on it.
I'd assume I need to feed it some phytoplankton in the future, but should I start running my skimmer right away, do water changes? I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow once the water clears back up.

Yea, I love my new live rock (my living room is smelling a bit funky though.)
