Special grade is easy to vacuum. I don't care for Super Reef Sand but everyone has their preferences.

I dont know about those 2 substrates, but i did use Arag-alive from them when setting up my tank. It was good, even though I probably would have preferred a finer sand like bahama Oolite.

    Thanks all.

What's the deal with Super Reef - is there really shells in there? Why don't you like it?

Yes, there are shells and that's why I don't like it. If I use larger grained sands, I like to siphon the top layers. The shells make that harder. Also, if you wait 6 or 7 months, every single stupid shell will be on the top (even if you don't vacuum). It looks darn ugly then IMO. The moon has a gravitational pull on them or something.

I have used CaribSea Dry Aragonite Special Grade Reef Sand
on both this and my last build. It is the preferred sand in our local reef club as well.

Buy it, you will like it:)

The 120 gal has been setup with the same. I really like the stuff...and Foster & Smith did not charge extra delivery to get it to the house.

I use the reef grade as well. I absolutely love it. Use to have issues with algae due to water not flowing through the substrate. Have yet to have a problem. Settles fast and looks good.
