    Hey Everyone,

I have just recieved my kents nitrate sponge. Can any one advise me on how much you are supposed to use at a time, do you rinse it regularly, when do you change it?

All it says on the container is to fill the media bag after rinsing thoroughly, change half of it every 3 months. I filled my media bag with a few teaspoons of it. Not sure if you are supposed to have it full or what.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I would add more than that! Basically follow the directions on the label. The other thing to do is to replace it frequently, sooner than later IMO!
How high are your nitrates now?
Your bioload isn't too high for your tank, so your nitrates should decline rather quickly!
Remember NITRATES are not as detrimental as nitrites and ammonia, and corals will feed/absorb it for food. As long as your nitrate level is under 10ppm. A larger amount will contribute to a spike in microalgae growth!

Sorry I misspelled. I meant I filled the bag with a few tablespoons, the bag is full. i wasn't sure if it was supposed to be full or not. It doesn't say anything about rinsing it weekly like you would carbon or your filter sponge. You know companies should supply this info.
