Anyone with a larger rectangular tank with side overflows as a walk around?

I have 12" on one side of my aquarium and a wall. I can tell you, I can't fit back there and then try to bend down to see anything. Not nearly enough room. You really do need 3' to make it comfortable. 2' would be minimum IMO.

Yes, you could stand there, but comfortably view the tank? Not so sure about that one. You would at least be able to get back there for maintenance, but I can't see anyone hanging out back there. If you think it'll work, go for it! You've got the room.

Ok, My buddy's 220 center overflow is 18" from one wall on one side.

He brought up a good point, and I thought about it- like hanging the lights (ceiling over it is 18' high), then I thought about power cords, etc.

Then I thought- OK- I could...
build a taller canopy to hand the lights in
and run the power cord to the lights, up along where the overflow pipes would go.
I'd then run the overflow to the sump back in and under the sump and thru the floor, there, I could also run the power cords up from the basement, so that nothing would be going to the wall, cords or light hangers.

At 2 ft from the wall, with the height of my stand, you won't be bending down to see anything really.

Haven't ran this idea across the wife yet thou...he he

    This could be doable,

    What do ya think?

I think it sounds like a plan. You want to be able to view the tank from all sides, right? Is this just for your benefit or you want others to view this way?

For me, and anyone else that comes by.

That way, I don't have to have a 'back wall' either.
It does mean cleaning the glass 360 though.

Also, If I did this, I could set up my 180, right in front of the 125, so the transfer would be a little easier I would think anyways, may not have use bucoos of containers and buckets in that case.
Then remove the 125 DT and stand when it transferred.

I think I like this idea!
If I did it that way, it wuold actyually be about 27" from the wall.
    Others thoughts?

How wide is the 180? You might need the back wall. I had a 120, and was barely able to not use the back wall on mine...it was not until I got my 250 Deep Dimension that I was able to put in a full reef without using any walls at all - but that tank is 36" wide front to back. Absolutely not saying it can not be done, just food for thought....at the risk of piling on, I also think 27" is not enough sapce to be a real walk around...you will be able to walk around it yes...but really enjoy the 27" space...I personally dont think so. Of course it is your tank, and it needs to make you happy not me :)

I agree with APC. The important thing is what YOU want.

The 180 is 24" front to back.
    Thanks for the thought/reply APC

    And OFK, thanks.
    However, there is my wife.
When I mentioned the idea to my wife this morning in bed- after great sex just a few hours before mind you- she blew a gasket about the idea.

I think the 27" would be great to walk behind and view the tank.
Agreed that most of the viewing would be from the family room side however.
It would be SSssooo much easier to make the transfer though! SSsoooo much easier, rather than buckets and bins, a 55g I have now laying around, etc.
I'm going to keep working on this.
