I am having trouble getting my email alerts to work with my new Apex Lite. The email works when it is hardwired, but not when connected through a wireless bridge. I have gotten most of my information from the Unofficial user guide. By the way, I am working on a Mac Here is where I am so far:

    - I connected my Apex to the internet (hardwired)

    - I then setup a free dDNS server using no-ip.com, and I am able to access the Apex from a different location (I gave the Apex a static IP)

    - I setup a GMX account, and setup the apex to send email alerts to my gmail account. It worked when the apex was hardwired to the router.

    - Next, I bought a wireless bridge (Netgear WNCE2001). I know that that this wireless bridge has worked for many other Apex owners. I gave it a static IP (that is different than the static IP for the Apex).

It then worked just like it did when it was hard-wired - I could still connect to the Apex from another location. The only part that is not working now is the email alerts. I am able to get the email alerts when the Apex is hardwired to the router, but when it is made wireless - there lies my problem.

I am not sure where I am going wrong here. Do I need to setup port forwarding on my router for any other ports? I have set the Apex port to be 9090. The email port for GMX is 587. Also, when I open ApexFlash, it tells me that the port for the Apex is 80 (instead of 9090). When I change this to 9090, it stops working.

Next possible issue, I accidentally updated my Apex when it was connected wirelessly through the Netgear. I now know that I cannot do this. I hard-wired the Apex to the router and re-updated. However, the email wasn't working even before this.

I have made sure that I was using the right emails, passwords, IP's. I am not so sure about the primary and secondary DNS, I am using the same ones as listed in system preferences -> network -> advanced -> DNS.

I am not very familiar with networking "lingo", so sorry if I have messed it up! Any ideas on where I am going wrong? I can provide other info/screenshots if necessary. Thanks in advance!

the email doesn't need its own port, you have to set a port forwarding up for the apex thats all. if you are connecting to the apex with the netgear router, your email should work.

easiest fix i see is to go into your router and change your apex access port to 80. there is no port forwarding needed for email. if you put a port forwarding rule in your router for the email. remove it.

one more thing your port forwarding should be set up to access your apex's ip addy. i hope I'm understanding your question, and have helped.
