I have a 55g and I have an Apex system with two Hydor powerheads. I want to have better motion control, rather then just on and off, so need to move to something that has variable speed. I would love to get the MP40's, but there are so many other things I want to get, that $465 x 2 for powerheads is a bit much for now.

My question is, The MP10 is spec'd up to 50g, if had two of these, one at each end of a 55g, would that be enough? As they are $235, this is far more attractive.

What I want is to be able to created a good wave motion during the day, but then go into night mode and calm things down after night mode. I'm not sure if the spec means that one powerhead is enough for a 50g, which means two should be plenty.

I am also assuming as I would be using the Apex to control the powerheads, I wouldn't need to wireless version?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

No, IME you'd need 2 MP40s. They have great flow, they just don't push farther than 2 ft. MP10s are nice, but the magnets holding them are weak and on a 55 it would be easy to knock them off. I would do 2 TUNZEs on a wavemaker setting from your APEX. They have nice strong flow and are dependable.

Thanks for the reply, funny enough the other option I was looking at was the Tunze Stream 6105, bit cheaper around the $300 mark
