    Hi guys,
Iv been keeping reeftanks using LR. i have tried everything but could never get rid if apitasias. im going for a new tank, but would like to use my old LR and sand in my new tank but only in fuge. my main tank will be having all dead rock (tierd of lr due to pests). i would like to know that if i keep my fuge lights longer (which you need to keep), will apitasia travell to my main tank? iv read and seen people using dead rocks and using lr in fuge only for cycling. other que is how long should the lights be on? dont wana go for 24hrs coz i just dont understand the reason. there sould be some rest given to the macro algae to actually grow since they always grow at night. im confused between 12 or 14 or 18hrs. will go reverse cycle.

I wouldn't risk the aptasia. It could find its way to the dt. With a fuge with macro algae, I would run the fuge light from when your dt lights go off to when they come on.(10-14hr reverse cycle)

i agree. i let the aiptasia grow in my fuge and it eventually made it up to my dt. i wouldn't risk it.

Very difficult to get rid of them all. I would nuke the rock and start over.

peppermints attack LPS..... all i want is their tiny feather dusters, tunicates and coralline algae. what if i cut these from the rock and put them in my new tank once its cycled. my sand bed is full off bristle worms and will shift them to fuge closely watching my substrate whther its got any aiptasia on it or no. will also add some bristle worms in my main tank.
