Does Aptasia retract when touched, like feather dusters do?

Yes but they don't have a tube to retract into.

Yeah and fast, I thought I could pull the one out I have as it's a descent size (the peppermint shrimp I have must've eaten the 2 tiny ones) but I tried to grab on and thought I had it but it retracted to almost nothing.

Pulling it out may not be such a good idea as it may leave a piece still attached to the rock and this will grow again. Better off using some Joe's Juice or similar option.

Look in previous threads as this topic has been discussed extensively with allot of "killing" options mentioned.

    Good luck.

Peppermint shrimpwill kill the small ones off. I had a problem with a rock I got from a LFS that probably sold it for that reason, I had to take the rock out and use boiling water in a suringe for a big one and then pulled it off with tweasers. They haven't resurfaced yet.

I have 5 or 6 of them on the rock my finger leather came from. I've noticed it started out as two. I thought they were feather duster LOL very very small too small for my camera. squirt em with vinegar, boiling water or do I have to buy Joe's juice?

Tried some of that kallwasser powder

    HI,
I had a large one in a rock with some coral, so I took the rock out and coated or painted the aptasia with a qtip coveredwith kalkwauser powder and returned the rock to the tank , it seems to have work not a sign of the beast and the pickling lime is fianally gone. The little corals are ok too.
Will watch for the little buggars.

Aiptasia and Mojano are very tough to keep under wraps, though it can be done with the right guidance and a watchful eye. Patience is something else that will come in handy in my opinion.
Having said this, aiptasia and mojano are not as bad as everyone says they are IF the right scenario takes place! They are efficient and effective filter feeders that will help in the quality of your water. The ideal place to house these anemones is in a refugium or other controlled environment where the population of these can be watched and controlled so that they don't have a detrimental effect on neighboring corals! Caution is advised but benefits can be received!

I had about 5 and killed 4 with a kalk solution. Though...the fifth super bugger seems to just eat the stuff up and keep kicking.
