Howdy from San Antonio! I've got a new 34g Red Sea... Found some aptasia on a piece of live rock! With no corals and a lot of cycle time left, is this a problem now... or can I wait until the cycle is over and throw some pepermint shrimp in?

    thanks, this site is cool!

I just did a search for "aiptasia" in the search engine. I came up with 338 threads.

If I were you, and you say there is a lot of cycle time left, I would take out the rock and bleach it for a few days and then boil it and then rinse it out really good and place it back into the tank after properly rinsing it. It should become liveon its own later on...

Or you can try some joe's juice/aiptasia-x.

ok cool, thannks for all of the good advice! Sorry about the multiple threads... I'm still getting the hang of this site.

I've only got 15 pounds of live rock... I can't afford much more for the tank right now. If I add more live rock later (after cycle) will it start the cycle over?

To the left is the pic of my tank!

Hey, don't worry about it. You will get the hang of it soon. Nice tank BTW. Good job. The syringe and Kalk idea is what I am going to do. I just got the apparatus. You just need to get a 1cc syringe with a 25 guage 1/2 to 5/8th inch needle. You can get these at some pharmacies. They may not sell to you if you are not diabetic. Be prepared for that. It depends on the pharmacist and their comfort level with selling syringes. The laws vary from state to state. We have always been paranoid about selling that which can be used for illicit purposes.

Also, don't buy any more live rock. Get base rock. Much cheaper and no hitchhikers.

Go with kalk paste, or if you don't have any kalkwasser mix, you can inject the trunk of it with lemon juice. Just keep an eye out to make sure it didn't reproduce. When they do, they are a pain to get rid of. Unless you see some nice growth on it, like tubeworms, mushrooms, etc. you may want to nuke it as suggested above, to prevent possible outbreaks/spreading.
